Sandra Gal remained winless in 2012, but firm to regain momentum this season
German Sandra Gal may not have been able to grab a victory in the 2012 season, but she displayed a stellar performance in most of the key tournaments.
Gal, a rising LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) star, has been trying to prove her worth since turning professional in 2007. The German golfer has so far been able to record one
LPGA triumph—something reflecting she has what it takes to trouble rivals.
Gal came close to winning some tournaments in the 2012 season, but lucked out due to rivals displaying a more refined game than her. However, she did her best, coming on strong despite facing
much-stronger competitors such as current world number one Yani Tseng, American Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park of South Korea.
Gal’s best performance was seen at the 2012 US Women’s Open. She shot an overall score of 289 to take the third position on the leaderboard. It was a tough battle, but the young gun did not
let her nerve rattle her and she remained in contention till the final moment of the four-day major event.
The LPGA Hanabank Championship 2012 also saw Gal in best shape as she took the share of 5th position on the leaderboard. She got off to a great start to her campaign as she posted
a 69 in the first round. She carded an overall score of 208.
The 2011 season was the most momentous of all for Gal as she racked up her maiden title. She exhibited a stunning performance at the Kia Classic, grabbing a one-stroke victory against South
Korean Jiyai Shin.
The German star missed the cut in three tournaments. Although she was not so down and out, it took her plenty of effort to remain in contention.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic saw her miss the cut as she got off to a sluggish start, shooting a 75 in the first round. She failed pick up pace in the second round as well as she carded a 73
to bow out of the tournament.
“When you know you can do it under pressure when there's a lot of people, definitely it helps you in the future. I think a great learning experience was my time in Germany as well. It was
just every fairway was packed with people and all the media there,” Gal said while speaking to the media during the tournament.
