Sandra Gal says attending 2012 Ryder Cup was a great experience
German Sandra Gal who is usually seen displaying her golfing skills on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, has said that attending the Ryder 2102 was a great experience.
Gal spoke her mind while speaking to the media at the end of the 2012 Ryder Cup, held at Chicago, saying she had always “dreamed of” witnessing her male golfing stars play at the much-hyped
Cup — one of the most prestigious tournaments on the PGA (Professional Golf Association).
Gal, who has built up quite a stunning profile in recent months as she has clinched one LPGA victory so far, grew up in Germany practicing golf with experienced male golfers.
“As a girl growing up in Germany, it was male golfers, not female, who were my idols. I played a lot of golf with the best guys in my area,” Gal shared.
She went on to say that since PGA is awash with talented players and male sport is usually stronger in Europe, she learned basic skills of golf from her friends, who often trained her on the
practice range.
Gal said that it was fun working on her short game as this was what she was most keen on improving. “The guys inspired me to hit the ball cleaner, hit it just a little farther, be more creative
with my short game, shape shots and learn to take and give the needle,” she said.
Ryder Cup, which usually grips the fans’ attention, has always inspired Gal, as the German star said that she was impatiently waiting for the event to kick off. She said that the Cup was staged
at a time when there no LPGA event, so she decide to make the most of this opportunity.
Gal flew to the United States to see the 2102 edition of Ryder Cup, and she rooted for the Team Europe. She said that she was overwhelmed by the sheer power of PGA stars, as they made the
game look so stunning and powerful.
Watching some of the big names in Chicago was Gal’s one of the greatest experiences in her golfing life. “I was battling my way through the crowds when I finally saw those guys live, the ones
you always hear on TV. You know who I'm talking about -- the ones who constantly yell "Get in the hoooooooooole" and "Tiiiiiigeeeeeeeeer".
