Sandrine Mainville wins Women’s 50m butterfly: Day one – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Sandrine Mainville of PPO won gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Thursday, July 19.
Mainville, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer of the event, continued her smothering efforts in the playoff and proved her audacity for gold medal of the discipline.
She faced tough competition from her strongest competitor, Noemie Thomas of VAND-USA throughout the discipline but managed to outperform her over the finishing end for gold medal with an effort of 26.96 seconds.
Her commendable effort remained just 0.01 seconds faster from Thomas, who reached the finishing blockade as second position holder by touching the wall with the timing of 26.97 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Chantique Payne of GMAC, who remained 0.48 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and made her way to the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing a time of 27.45 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the event was secured by Samantha Corea of VAND-USA, who remained just an inch slower from overwhelming her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 27.46 seconds.
Corea was chased by Kendra Chernoff of U of a Swim Club, who stayed 0.14 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fifth position holder of the event by clocking a time of 27.60 seconds.
The 21-year-old Chernoff was chased by Caroline Kuczynski of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who occupied sixth position of the discipline by posting a time of 27.62 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Erin Stamp of GMAC, who was just 0.01 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 27.63 seconds.
Similarly, Stamp enjoyed an advantage of 0.15 seconds over Sherry Patel of MSSAC, who managed to outsmart her following swimmers and secured eighth finest spot of the event by clocking a time of 27.78 seconds.
In addition, Mainville was extremely happy after occupying national gold medal of the discipline and articulated that she would continue her struggle to excel at higher levels of sport.
