Sandro Rosell: UEFA and FIFA should pay players’ salaries when on international duty
Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell, wants governing European and world football bodies to take drastic steps and change the economical policies that rule the game today. The Catalan executive wants FIFA and UEFA to pay players' salaries when they are on
international duty.
Rosell attacked the international organizations for their policies, stating that they are morally obligated to pay because they are the ones who are profiteering from their services during such instances and not the clubs.
"We do not believe it is fair that we pay wages and they use our players and get income using our players. This is something that should be treated seriously. We hope they will hear what we want to tell them," he told a conference in the capital of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986,
Doha.
The Blaugrana president said that prominent clubs in Europe are already in discussions with UEFA and FIFA in this regard and are trying to reach an agreement.
He also shed light on 'behind the scenes' actions in European football and revealed how the big guns are looking at the future of football on the continent.
However, Rosell said they are serious on the subject and threatened that they will consider splitting from the European body if their requests are not considered in earnest.
He also stated that the number of teams in top European leagues should be reduced from 20 to 16. Continuing on the topic of European football, he proposed that the Champions League should grow.
From a competitive point of view, he said that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604-Manchester matches on Saturday or Sunday will be a fantastic idea - top teams playing each other on a regular basis.
"We want to have the Champions League under the umbrella of UEFA, but we also want UEFA to hear our demands. We are asking for more revenue. We are asking for governance, transparency and insurance.
He stressed that with more money to play in the top competition, it will lead to better governance, transparency and security.
The radical ideas of Rosell are in line with those advocated by the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Juventus and most notably Real Madrid.
