Sandy Alderson optimistic about long-term contract extension with R.A. Dickey and David Wright-MLB

Both the starting pitcher R.A. Dickey and third baseman David Wright respond to the positive intention shown by General Manager Sandy Alderson about their retention beyond 2013.
Alderson stated earlier that the New York Mets are seriously interested in keeping Dickey and Wright in the team for a long period of time. Instead of entering the 2013 season with free agency looming over their head, he wants to clinch agreements with them
in advance.
Dickey and Wright have been two players for the Mets that have contributed the most in whatever little success the team has enjoyed in the season so far. Dickey has led the pitching staff and has produced wins for the team whenever the decline began to prolong.
He has turned out to be the most successful pitcher in the National League.
On the other hand, Wright spearheaded the offence. In particular in the first half of the season, his contribution was stand out. At some point in time, his batting average surpassed .400 and thus gave an impression that he will break records if he continues
connecting hits at the same pace.
As far as the response of Wright and Dickey to the GM’s desire to retain them is concerned, both have tried to hide their intentions while giving a clear impression that free agency is not out of the possible options.
Therefore unless the Mets agree to their demands which will certainly be about money the conclusion of the contract extension will not be possible. The fact the Mets’ budget is already limited shows the possible point of contention between the players and
the team.
“Right now I’ll listen to whatever proposal they put out there and hopefully get into a healthy dialogue with them about what their vision is and what they’re going to do,” Dickey said. “Until then I can’t even speculate.”
“That’s nice of him,” Wright said. “Thank you. It’s good to hear. I’ve said all along I’m going to hopefully discuss something in the offseason, so we’ll see what happens.”
With the Mets heading to one of the worst seasons they have experienced, they will be looking to build up a strong team for future.
It will be interesting to keep track of the events that relate with the contract extension of Wright and Dickey.
