Sandy Alomar Jr. cites perks in managerial selection bid with Cubs
Sandy Alomar Jr. happens to be associated with winning personalities in Major League Baseball. His brother Roberto Alomar earned a Hall of Fame induction this year. He was a legendary player for the Toronto Blue Jays and Sandy Alomar Jr. hopes to provide
the same kind of contribution for the Chicago Cubs if he is selected as their new manager. The former Major League Baseball player has a lot of perks on his side and they do make a valid statement. He talked to the press on Friday, November 11.
For starters, Alomar happens to live in Chicago with his family. His wife and daughter reside near the Wrigley Field in Chicago. His daughter’s school is very close to the stadium and that shows the nice fit for the former baseball player.
"My family, we enjoy this area, we love it," Alomar said.
Alomar was always thinking long term and in 2001 he decided to pick up coaching or managing as his next step in his professional career. The six time All – Star catcher spent 20 seasons in Major League Baseball under 10 different managers. Furthermore, seven
of those skippers went to the World Series. So when it comes to affiliation with success, Alomar has the right mix in his arsenal.
"I think I bring a lot of things to the table that maybe some of the other [candidates] don't bring in regards to being a player, going through injuries in their past, spending a lot of time in the Minor Leagues as a player," he said. "I've played for winning
people all my career, and that gave me the opportunity to learn their values and how to take abilities from other people and incorporate that to myself."
Alomar currently is the Cleveland Indians bench coach. The only downside to his credentials is that he has no managerial experience in the format. He is familiar with the practices observed by skipper but he has never made the right decisions for any club
on his own. For a player who ended his playing career in 2007, Alomar has the right mix to lead a team. Will he get the call from Cubs is more of a mystery, though.
