Sangakkara shines on rain-hit day

Heavy rain and bad light affected the 1st day’s play at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo where the 2nd Test of the series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and West Indies is being played.
But the situation was not a lot different on the 2nd day either, when rain interrupted play once again after tea and only 60.4 overs could be managed throughout the day.
Sri Lanka was in trouble yesterday as they were only34 for the loss of 3 major batsmen at one stage but then the captain Sangakkara and Samaraweera rescued the Sri Lankan innings. Sri Lankan score overnight was 84 for 3 and it was beautifully poised but
the day 2 belonged to Sri Lanka because of a marvellous hundred by their inspirational captain Kumar Sangakkara and a solid 80 by Samaraweera who has been very consistent at the test level since last 5 years.
In the 60.4 overs bowled on day 2, Sri Lanka added 210 more runs for the loss of only 2 wickets and the satisfactory thing for the Sri Lankans would be that their captain is still at the crease on 135 runs not out. His beautiful knock included 16 fours and
a six.
Sangakkara has once again proved that he is one of most reliable players for Sri Lanka in tough conditions. He possesses one of the best techniques in modern day cricket and on top of that he is mentally very strong. That’s why he score runs under-pressure
more often than not.
West Indian bowlers were quite impressive on day 1 as they took wickets and also applied pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen by not giving them any loose balls but that was not the case on day 2.
In fact the bowling performance by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 was quite poor as Sri Lanka was able to score their runs freely and their innings run-rate is 3.26 runs per over which is quite good in tests. Dwayne Bravo and Kemar Roach took 1 wicket each on Wednesday.
The off-spinner, Shillingford went for plenty. He was quite impressive in the 1st test but was reported by the on-field umpires for a suspect bowling action during that match. That might have put extra pressure on him which did not help him bowl
with the same rhythm in the 2nd test. He seems like a good talent which can serve the West Indies cricket in future and one hopes that he can resolve his problems regarding his action while delivering the ball.
The weather has spoiled this series so far with the 1st test also not giving any result. Cricket fans would definitely like a result in this match but considering the current situation, the 2nd test also seems to be heading towards
a draw. However, Sri Lanka and West Indies both would be disappointed by their bowling efforts in the series as both the teams have put up good show with the bat in 2 tests so far. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope the rain stays away and we can enjoy
a good day’s cricket tomorrow.
