Sangakkara wants a better domestic cricket structure – Cricket News Update
The former Sri Lankan captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 wants a strong first-class cricket structure in the country and he feels that this is the only way Sri Lankan cricket can regain its lost glory.
The Islanders emerged as a major cricketing force in 1996 when they took everyone by surprise and won the World Cup. From then onwards, Sri Lanka remained a threat for all and sundry in the different formats of the game.
However, things have been different since the last one year after the retirement of great cricketers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223. Sri Lanka has especially struggled in the bowling department as they have found it very hard
to take 20 wickets in a Test match since the retirement of their spin wizard.
Sangakkara, who is considered as one of the best wicketkeeper/batsmen of the world, said that domestic cricket is the base of any cricket system and no team can do well at the international level on consistent basis, unless or until it has a strong structure
of domestic cricket.
The former Sri Lankan captain feels that Australia has the best domestic structure in the world and this is the reason for their success.
Sangakkara said, "It's very important to have great first-class structure, I think in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has been so good over the years, and I think that is an example that you can't dismiss."
While talking about the change in captaincy, Sangakkara feels that it was never going to be an easy task for Dilshan to take control of the situation after the World Cup. Dilshan called it a day after the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397
was given the responsibility once again. Sangakkara hopes that this change turns out to be good for Sri Lankan cricket.
"The way the players think and the way the people who make decisions sometimes don't add up. But that is the way cricket has always been. Dilshan unfortunately decided to resign and then we have gone back to Mahela, which at this time is probably a very
good decision," he said.
