Sangakkara’s mother reckons Tendulkar also deserved People’s Choice award – Cricket News Update

While speaking exclusively from Colombo, Kumari Surangana, the mother of Sangakkara, said that she was extremely delighted for her son, who swept the awards ceremony on Saturday night by winnings three gongs. However, she said that the Little Maestro would also have been the “right” person to win the People’s Choice award, an honour which the Sri Lankan veteran has clinched for the second successive year.
“Sachin Tendulkar is the most popular cricketer in the world and he also deserved this award. But it was people’s choice to nominahttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472e my son,” said Mrs Kumari Surangana. “There can’t be any doubt about the popularity of Tendulkar,” she further added.
The People’s Choice award was introduced in 2010. Cricket fans from around the globe vote for their favourite player for this award in the last four weeks of the 12-month voting period.
The veteran Sri Lankan left-hander, who was adjudged as the Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year for 2012, was chosen ahead of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753, for the People’s Choice award.
“All three awards-Test Cricketer of the Year 2012, People’s Choice Award and the ICC Cricketer of the Year-won by my son are important and prestigious and touching to us,” said the mother.
“The entry was limited to few people therefore we witnessed the ceremony on TV at home”, she added further.
Sangakkara had credited his success to his father, Swarnakumara Sangakkara and the mother echoed him saying, “His father had hands in moulding Kumar’s career.”
Kumari Surangana also acknowledged the fairness of awards saying, “The winners were selected by the independent panel and they were not bias.”
