Sania Mirza out of action after knee surgery – Tennis News
Several tennis stars have lately been suffering from injuries and are out of play for a long time. Headlining the list are the William sisters who have recently announced their in availability till 2012 due to injuries and medical
issues. Following the Americans is the Indian tennis star Sania Mirza.
The Asian superstar had been out of action for some time now and was expected to make a comeback soon. However, having undergone surgery on her left-knee, Mirza is out of action for another few weeks.
Sania Mirza’s father c*m coach, Imran Mirza said “Sania had torn her meniscus during the US Open Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows in September and thus the surgery took place”. Mr. Imran Mirza also added that Sania Mirza
was accompanied by her husband, Shoaib Malik (Pakistan’s former Cricket Team Captain), who stayed at the hospital throughout the time of the operation.
Indian Tennis ace injured herself last month and since then she had been following a course of injections to avoid any surgeries but her knee failed to recover. Seeing the worsening condition of her left-knee it was better for
her to undergo a surgery. Sania had already undergone an arthroscopy surgery on her right-knee in 2006 and one year later she was operated on to repair a torn lunate capsule of her right wrist.
Her father was clearly saddened by the fact that her daughter had already undergone two surgeries that has affected her practice and health massively. The major reason for her recent poor run in major tournaments is lack of regular
practice and long bed rests. Her father said “We are praying this time the knee treatment is successful and she does not have to go through all the pain again".
Sania entered into the top-10 world ranks in women’s doubles for the first time in her career this year but her glory was shattered when she was struck with a knee injury right-afterwards in the Grand Slam tournament. She has slipped
multiple ranks in the singles and is now at the 88th spot and this injury will further decline her overall ranking.
