Sania Mirza surprises Lesia Tsurenko to reach the main draw – Brussels Open 2012
A stunning display of sheer class and domination was witnessed from the Indian tennis diva, Sania Mirza, in the qualifying competition of the Brussels Open on Monday afternoon. The unseeded Indian continued with her sublime form at the clay courts of Brussels
to hunt down the fifth seed Ukrainian, Lesia Tsurenko, to clear the qualifying competition of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International Tour event.
25-year-old Mirza exhibited a spellbinding display of flawless tennis to route the superiors ranked opponent with a double bagel, 6-0, 6-0. She took merely 45 minutes to wrap up his thumping victory in the most assertive fashion, marching into the main draw
of the tournament. It was the first encounter between these two players and Tsurenko proved to be a total mismatch for the belligerent Indian diva. She utterly failed to hold her serve in a single game and suffered break points in every game to incur a humiliating
defeat.
Mirza rocked the qualifying draw when she registered an upset by disposing of the fourth seed Australian, Anastasia Rodionova, in the second round. She carried on with her winning impetus in the final round of the qualifiers to annihilate fifth seed Tsurenko
without losing a single game in the entire matchup.
The unseeded Indian delivered 61 per cent of her first serve on target, winning 15 out of 23 points on it and converted six out of six break opportunity in the contest to rocket away to victory in style. On the other hand, the fifth seed Ukrainian completely
failed to register a single break point in the entire contest, frittering away four priceless opportunities to finish on the losing side in the end.
Mirza took hold of the momentum right from the beginning of the contest and never allowed Tsurenko to have any sort of an impact on the match. She kept belting assertive winners to all parts of the court, backing her game play with rock solid baseline defence
to cruise through both sets with the utmost ease.
25-year-old Mirza will carry on her Brussels Open campaign in the main rounds this week and strain to bag her maiden title of the season.
