Sania Mirza to soon quit Tennis
Indian tennis sensation, Sania Mirza seems to be under the magical spell of her marriage at the moment. The tennis star is expected to retire from international tennis after two years, in order to concentrate fully on her family life and husband, Shoaib Malik.
While talking to the media in Birmingham, Sania shared her future plans and clearly stated that she will quit the sport within a period of two years. Her plans to retire from tennis come after her recent marriage to Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik.
The Indian clearly wants to give all her time to her marriage. According to her, living away from her husband after the wedding is hard to manage. So, the tennis star has decided to quit like a true eastern girl. It seems as if Sania is not ready to disturb her marital life at any cost and her decision reflects a strong commitment to her husband, Shoaib Malik.
In the past, a wrist injury had badly affected her professional career. According to her previous statements, she wanted to continue after her recovery from the injury but this is not the case anymore.
However, Indians all over the world are hoping to see their tennis ace representing her homeland in the Commonwealth and Asian Games as 100 percent fit and healthy. Recently Indian fans have not had the delight of watching their tennis star representing India.
It is commendable that in spite of all the controversies that surrounded her wedding along with a consistent injury, Sania played with impressive confidence in the first round of the AEGON Classic to defeat rising Taiwanese star, Chan Yung-Jan, ranked 83 in the world, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
It must have been a tough call for Mirza to start touring shortly after her wedding and for such a long period of time. Staying away from her husband is not easy as she told reporters after the match.
Life has various phases from birth to death. In between, marriage is a very important phase of life and eventually everyone has to get married sooner or later. But as a professional woman, the decision of marriage totally depends on whether she wants to continue with her career for long or finish it early and get married. Marriage is a totally personal matter whereas tennis is a professional one for Sania Mirza. They are two different things all together.
Sania Mirza is also the first Indian woman who has won a WTA Tour title for her country as well as a Grand Slam title in the Australian Open mixed doubles with her partner Mahesh Bhupathi.
Returning to international tennis on a winning note can only boost a player’s confidence. The tennis star did not hit a single shot wrong and seemed to be playing as if she never was away from the sport.
Chan did not play poorly at all but the truth of the matter is that Mirza played better tennis than the young rising star. The Indian player was simply flawless during the closing out period of the match.
The victory setup Mirza’s second round match with the Thai player Tamarine Tanasugarn. According to her statement, this would be her last representation for India in the Commonwealth and Asian games. Hopefully she leaves her fans with something special to remember her by.
