Sania Mirza to team up with Bob Bryan in Australian Open 2013 – Tennis News
Indian tennis ace, Sania Mirza, was extremely excited at the press conference on Sunday where she revealed her new mixed doubles partner for the Australian Open 2013. It will be none other than the 18-time Grand Slam Champion,
Bob Bryan. It looks to be a fantastic partnership especially considering the recent run of form of both players that has definitely boosted the chances of their partnership in the year’s first Grand Slam Championship contested at Melbourne in January.
The 25-year-old Indian superstar was conducting a press conference about ‘Marks for Sports’ campaign that was inaugurated by the NDTV-Nirmal. Hyderabadi was sponsoring the event and also acted as the brand ambassador. Mirza was
enthusiastic about her talks and wanted to see some more talented players coming out of the tennis academy that made her a player which she is. The academy is situated in the outskirts of the Hyderabad city.
While commenting about the academy in the press conference, Mirza said, “The academy will also focus on rural areas and tap the talent available there.” She also stated the organizers of the academy are working extremely hard to
provide such an environment to the youngsters that will make it easier for them to schedule their practice sessions and education simultaneously. However, it will take a bit of time before the entire system can be organized at such a trivial level.
She was asked about the whole dilemma that surrounded the Indian Tennis Federation during the London Olympics campaign. The whole scenario of the teaming of Mahesh Bhupathi, Rohan Bopanna, Leander Paes, Vishnu Vardhan and Sania
Mirza. There was turmoil on media that was absolutely terrible to witness especially for those youngsters who were looking to pursue their career in the field of tennis. Commenting about that Mirza said, “We should move on and look at the positive aspects."
She also said that people these days are more aware of fitness and hence that is a positive aspect considering the number of boys and girls coming into the tennis academies.
Mirza added, “Though Hyderabad was thought to be laid back, it's no more the scenario with people here taking to fitness and sports enthusiastically. People here have become health conscious. More and more kids are taking to sports
inspired by great sportsmen from the city like Azharuddin, VVS Laxman and Saina Nehwal.”
Shoaib Malik, Mirza’s husband, is a fan of racing cars and visited the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix as well. So talking about that, Mirza stated, “It was an amazing experience to zip off at 300-350 kms speed." Let’s hope she can
smash the ball as hard as the car races across the turf of Indian during Formula 1.
