Sania Mirza visits Pakistan alongside husband Shoaib Malik – Tennis News
Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza is currently enjoying her stay in Pakistan with her husband, Shoaib Malik, a former Pakistani Cricket team’s captain. Malik is competing in Pakistan’s National Twenty20 Championships while Mirza will
support him throughout the tournament.
Mirza who was advised by her physician to stay off court for at least six weeks due to a ruptured knee planned to spend her days off in Pakistan. Dressed in red shalwar kameez, local national dress, she received a warm welcome
by the people on the Karachi International Airport where the cricket tournament will be held.
She came to Karachi for the first time since 1990’s when she played an international junior tennis tournament. Mirza, already triumphed titles at Indian Wells, Charleston and Washington D.C. this season, was cheered on her arrival
but she refrained from talking to media.
"I don't think the media should create so much hype around us and our marriage but yes I do hope that our marriage in some way helps people in both countries realize we can co-exist peacefully and help each other.

"I hope our marriage in some helps in further improving relations between the two countries," the former Pakistan captain told reporters.
Before arriving to Karachi, she visited her in-laws at Sialkot and had a private visit to Lahore. Mirza married the Pakistani cricket star in April last year in weeding that rocked the whole sub continent. Since Pakistan and India
has a lot bigger history and are arch rivals since the creation of both countries, the marriage was unexpected and unacceptable to extremists.
Malik, who is captaining the Sialkot Stallions in the upcoming tournament, arranged special permission his wife to be in Karachi and to support him.
"I am here to play cricket and my wife is with me on a holiday but obviously her presence is good for me and I hope to do well in the national tournament," he said.
The blooming tennis star and her husband made a showing in the morning show, Utho Jago Pakistan hosted by Dr. Shaista Wahidi on Tuesday. Mirza talked about her stay and warm welcome in Pakistan and how much she enjoyed it here.
The delighted tennis super star was asked about playing with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi as her doubles partner but she said, “it would be difficult to practice with him, whereas Rohan Bopanna and Bhupathi are Indians and we can have more time for practicing together.”
The blissful pair is currently residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and when Mirza is on the move for her WTA tour, the Pakistani cricketer usually tags along with her to support in her matches.
