India’s former middle-order batsman, Sanjay Manjrekar, is not happy with the Test opening pair of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, and has slammed the national selectors for not thinking long-term.
The Men in Blue were the number one ranked Test team of the globe till 2011, before they were whitewashed by England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The major reason behind India’s downfall remained their bowling attack’s inefficiency; however, the
batsmen also failed to make an impression.
Over the years, the opening duo of Sehwag and Gambhir has brought laurels for India, performing well in all three formats; but the two cricketers from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 and Australia.
The selectors however, have retained both of them for the on-going Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at home. Manjrekar, 47, fears that the pair will perform well on home-soil, and will consequently be selected for foreign tours as
well, where they will be exposed.

"I'm convinced that Gambhir and Sehwag cannot be your opening combination in South Africa. The problem with playing them in the home season is that they'll get runs and you'll feel you have an in-form opening pair that you'll take
to South Africa. It's a huge gamble," said the Mysore born former batsman.
Manjrekar was more critical of Sehwag, who he thinks does not possess the technique to cope with the moving ball. The former cricketer is of the view that the aggressive batsman has gone past his best in international cricket and
urged the selectors to groom youngsters in the long-term interest of the team.
"This is the disappointment that I have with the selection that nobody's thinking long-term, but in India, as a country, we never think long-term," Manjrekar added. "To expect Sehwag in overseas conditions to give India the kind of
starts he used to in his pomp is unreasonable."
