Sanskriti Chhabra defeats Khushboo Patel in qualifying round: All India Junior Ranking Tournament
India’s emerging young shuttler, Sanskriti Chhabra overpowered Khushboo Patel in the Girl’s Singles U-19 qualifying round of the 2011 All India Junior Ranking Tournament, in Chandigarh, India, on Tuesday, October 4.
Sanskriti put up a wonderful show against the seventh seeded Khushboo and won the three-set battle after working hard for 35 minutes. She played terrific badminton in the whole game by remaining positive throughout the match and made her mark over her rival.
In the first game, Khushboo was the leader of the game as she dictated the pace of the rallies and managed set up an early lead. Sanskriti tried to control the bird but failed as her challenger was playing on a different level. Until the break, Khushboo
was leading the game with a comfortable gap.
After the interval, Sanskriti accelerated her speed to reduce the deficit but failed to bridge the huge gap and lost the first game in just 10 minutes with a four-point deficit of 17-21.
In the following set of this qualifying round contest, Sanskriti bounced back into the match by playing wonderful badminton. She remained positive in the whole game against Khushboo who was also playing at the same level. The score progressed closely in
the first half and grabbed the attention of the home crowd.
After taking rest for one minute, both girls again played remarkable badminton until the ending points of the second game. Sanskriti played a fast game at the end and won the set with a tight margin of 21-19 in 12 minutes.
The deciding game of this fabulous battle was a tough fight as both shuttlers played wonderful badminton and kept snapping on each other’s heels. They spared no chance for each other to dominate the rallies and earn points. The score reached at the crucial
stage of 21-21.
At this important stage of the encounter, Sanskriti played some wonderful strokes and earned two consecutive points to win the set in 13 minutes by a 23-21 score on the board. This tremendous three-set match ended in 35 minutes with a 17-21, 21-19 and 23-21
score.
