Santiago Giraldo ends Albert Ramos’s run at Barcelona Open in second round
Columbian tennis player Santiago Giraldo defeated Albert Ramos of Spain in three sets at the 2011 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, undoing the player to move to the third round of this ATP World Tour 500 event. The Spanish pro, who
is currently ranked World Number 107 and is 23 years old, lost the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Giraldo will be competing in the third round of the clay tournament.
Santiago Giraldo played a good match today, and began the first set quite well. He managed to score three aces, while Ramos could only muster one. Both players did not commit any double faults, but Giraldo broke Ramos twice to
take the advantage. The match ended with Santiago Giraldo taking eight points more than his opponent to win 58 per cent of the total played. The Columbian won the first set 6-3.
Albert Ramos picked up his game in the second set of the match, and gave Giraldo a run for his money. Although the Columbian scored three aces, Ramos was not far behind with two aces. In addition to this, Giraldo committed two
double faults and was broken twice by his opponent. The World Number 54 broke his Spanish opponent once, but could make it far enough in the set to win. He scored six points less than his opponent, and Albert Ramos took the second set 6-4 to push the match
into a tie-breaking set. The score-line was 6-3, 4-6 to Santiago Giraldo at this point in the match.
The third set was a repeat of the first one, as Santiago Giraldo took back the match to defeat Albert Ramos easily. He recovered from his mid-match lapse, and scored three aces. The player also broke Ramos twice, and was only broken
once himself. Giraldo sent Ramos off the court after taking 52 per cent of the total points played in the match, winning their second straight encounter 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Santiago Giraldo will face either Rafael Nadal, or Daniel Gimeno-Traver in the third round of the Barcelona Open.
