Question:

Santioned Fighting?

What is it all about? I've been doing martial arts for awhile now, but I've never done any sanctioned fighting (by that I mean tournaments and such, I spar weekly).

How is it comparable to the UFC? Do you have to be in certain schools of martial arts to do it, or can you just show up and fight? Is there anywhere in Kentucky that does it?

Sorry if this seems like a nooby question, I just don't know anything about it.

Thanks.

  1. The state of Kentucky does not (yet) sanction professional fighting other than wrestling and boxing. It does oversee all contact and combat sports, including MMA and martial arts competitions, as long as they are amateur fights where none of the combatants are paid a prize or purse for their involvement.

Many martial arts schools are now offering cross-training to prepare students for MMA fighting (such as UFC-style fights). A good resource for this is http://www.kyfight.com/ which is the website for the Kentucky Fighting Challenge. They are the oldest MMA organization in Kentucky and they work with many other MMA organizations and schools.

  2. Visit the Warrior Fighting Challenge's web site.  it's at http://www.warriorfc.com and is the commonwealth's best MMA promotions any where in the state, although a few other org.'s will disagree with that statement.  Consider shows ran per month, fighter types, event staff, MMA teams participating,  etc. and you will find that the WFC is one of the "Commonwealth's" most experienced as they boast they are.  In all honesty Jimbo Collins does run a pretty decent "professional type" event at the WFC.  The WFC has had "independent fighters" beat "Team Gurgle" which is Jorge Gurgel's ( UFC fighter ) team.  As a matter of fact Gurgel's team was sweep in Florence, Ky. in August of 2007 by independent fighters fighting under the WFC's flag.  The Warrior Fighting Challenge is the best place for competition in the commonwealth of Kentucky.  As far as schools go they're all over the place in Ky.

My team has been to other organiztion's events in Ky. and their officiating sucks out loud.  The WFC does at least keep their officiating clean, fair, balanced and unbias.  Go to any other event state wide and you'll find Ref's with a key interest in who wins and who doesn't.

  3. there are several amateur shows in kentucky look for HB ***** promotions or go to MMAclarksville.com contcat they do shows in ky
