Newcastle United defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
The young Italian defender arrived at the Sports Direct Arena from Inter Milan last summer in a deal reported to be worth £5 million. Santon however failed to make an impact in the first half of the season and was unable to feature for the team.
The second half of the season was a different story. The 21-year old put in a number of impressive performances for Newcastle and helped them manage a top five finish in the English top flight, falling short of fourth place by just one point.
Despite his success with Newcastle, the young defender has been linked with a move away from Newcastle, with a return to Italy looking like the most likely outcome.
Recently, AS Roma tested his loyalty by announcing they were interested in him and were considering a swap deal for Santon that would see http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bojan-Krkic-c7794 go the other way.
However, in an interview with Italian newspapers and press, Santon has made it clear that he is going nowhere and is quite happy and settled at Newcastle.
“AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 wanted me, but Newcastle replied that I was not for sale and I am glad of this.”
“I feel really good. I have recovered from a knee injury and now I’m facing the pre-season with Newcastle at my best.”
“I am fine here now I know what the coach wants and I’m ready to play a great season.”
“I think we can fight for a place in the next Champions League. It’s hard but we can do it.”
“I left http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan because I was not playing and I needed my space to grow and now I’m delighted to wear the Newcastle shirt.”
Santon has earned seven caps for the Italian national side and has not ruled out a return to Italy. The player is a long term admirer of AC Milan, the club he joined at the age of 14 and won two Serie A titles with. Santon admitted that he would love to
return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 someday, but right now, he is perfectly happy at Newcastle.
