Sanya Richards-Ross persists to make a comeback – Athletics news
Sanya Richards-Ross, the 26-year old Jamaica-born girl, who represents United States in international competitions and happens to be the reigning World 400m champion, made a successful comeback at the Athletissima 2011 competition. The two-time Olympic gold
medallist in the 4x400m relay said that soon her spectators will see her making a sustained return to the sport.
The Athletissima 2011 competition was the seventh stop of this summer’s Samsung Diamond League.
Sanya, who marked victories at the Olympic Games held in Athens and Beijing, had always been considered as a formidable track and field athlete who specialised in the Women’s 400m run. She bagged bronze in an individual competition of the 400m run at the
2008 Olympics and also boasts of earning a gold medal for the same distance at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
Amid the formidable show of talent she consistently managed to put on display at the Golden League meeting in Zurich, she emerged as a strong contender of the race for the position of the World’s Number One 400m runner, as her quick strides had succeeded
in stopping the clock at 48.92 seconds.
One year down the line, the bar of her  performance was raised further as she emphatically smashed the over two decades long US record for marking a quick 48.70 seconds. Since Marie-Jose Perec, the Guadeloupe born French runner who specialised in 200m and
400m runs had marked a stunning 48.25 seconds back at the 1996 Olympics, the time clocked by Sanya was the fastest in the world.
While marking her much-awaited comeback, the stunning girl who has a record of finishing 40 of her total 400m runs under 50 seconds and who decided to become a US citizen back in 2002, determinately expressed her resolve to get back into shape and form.
Talking about her fitness, the three-time Jackpot winner of $1 million said, “I’m getting into a better shape after missing last season with the injury I suffered and I think I’m surely but slowly getting there. I pulled my quad muscle in April of last year.
I tried to get back for the US Nationals but I bruised myself and sprained my ankle.”
While continuing to speak about the injury she suffered last year, Sanya revealed that after the run, she had consulted her coach, but meanwhile, notwithstanding the pain, she fell on her tailbone. Thus, the injury left no room for her except to call it
a quit. However, now, as she had decided to resume with her game, she was of the view that it was definitely going to be a tough and painstaking decision.
