  1. My friend got a "good deal" on a tv at Wal-Mart.  It lasted about 10 mos.  He took it in to get repaired and the repair shop told him that the tvs that Wal-mart sells are made especially for them.  They intentionally leave some parts out of the tv to lower the price.  Unfortunately, the parts they leave out can affect the long term performance/reliability.  I would never buy a tv from Wal-Mart.  Their dvd players also have the same problem.

  2. I copied this ad from walmart.com. I suppose the thing to take note of here is the resolution is a 720 as opposed to a 1080 the 1080 resolution screens have better pictures however the 720 is fine if you really dont need the latest greatest technology and just want a big screen. The 720 has better value in that respect.

I have added a link to BestBuy.com at the bottom of my response and you can see that the lowest price they offer on a television in a comparable size (50" or larger) $1399, (you must view in cart). And some of these are 720 but a lot are 1080 keep that in mind when comparing.
