Sapphire highly favoured in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Give Thanks Stakes
The Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Give Thanks Stakes (Fillies And Mares) has brought together nine three-year and above contestants who will invade the track in order to become entitled to the €50,375 prize money. The most credible entry for the mile and four furlong race at the Cork race course is the four-year-old bay filly, Sapphire.
Medicean’s daughter has been racing in graded company ever since the new season dawned. Her 2011 campaign comprises of only one graded race but with a decent outcome as she finished just next to the best.
The four-year-old Irish bay filly scored second in the Group 2 www.thetote.com Blandford Stakes on 11th September, 2011 at the Curragh race course over a mile and two furlongs. Manieree won the race by the margin of 3 ¼ lengths while riding with jockey, N. G. McCullagh.
The runner-up filly started off with chasing the leaders and half way down the distance she ranked fifth in the field of eleven. By the time the final three furlongs remained to be raced over, she had progressed to the third position. With another furlong down it became apparent that there was no stopping or impacting the finishing of the winner.
The D. K. Weld trained cracked into the new season on 17th June, 2012 in the Group 3 Kerry Group Noblesse Stakes (Fillies And Mares) at the Cork race course over a mile and four furlongs. The bay filly out of, Polished Gem, tracked the leaders from the third position on the inside and progressed drastically two furlongs out. She did not let go off the grip and remained strong inside the final furlong winning by the margin of 4 3/4 lengths.
Betterbetterbetter qualified as the runner-up.
The Moyglare Stud Farm owned then raced in the Group 1 Barclays Bank Ireland Pretty Polly Stakes (Fillies And Mares) on 1st July, 2012 at the Curragh race course over a mile and two furlongs. The race was won by, Izzi Top as Sapphire settled as the favourite runner-up.
Today is the straight third time that the 4 to 6 entry will race in graded company, and has drawn the third gate to ride with jockey, Pat Smullen.
