Sapsiree Taerattanachai moves into pre quarter-finals of US Open GPG – Badminton news
Women’s Singles shuttler Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand had a perfect start of Yonex OCBC US Open GPG as she cleared the opening round and marched into the pre quarter-finals on July 9, 2013.
She was up against the Japanese player Sayaka Sato and their meeting lasted for 71 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 20-22, 22-20 and 21-15.
Though, the Thai campaigner lost first set of match but she did not lose heart and performed exceptionally well in ending two games. On the other hand, Sayaka Sato could not relish benefits of first set win and crashed out of the
event in a disgraceful manner.
The Japanese player looked in prime touch in the opening game as she ruled the court in establishing rallies and gained a decent advantage on points table. She did not lose focus in next couple of rallies and piled up a decent
total in no time.
At the half time, Sayaka was in strong position but she dropped many points in a row by playing imprecisely.
The opposing shuttler Sapsiree made best out of this opportunity and levelled the score. Both contenders remained head-to-head all the way to game point situation and finally this cliff-hanging tussle ended when Sayaka registered
a concluding margin of 22-20.
The second set of match proved just a replay of previous one but result was entirely different this time. The Thai player displayed unbeatable craft on court and established a convincing lead in no time.
Sapsiree kept on playing with an authoritative approach and placed a decent figure of 11 before interval. Though, she looked off colour immediately after the mid-game break but then a flurry of productive strokes reinstated her
dominance. She put a winning margin of 22-20 and setup a nerve-racking decider.
The third set of match started with couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders put all they had to oust the opponent. They stood toe-to-toe till the half time but then Sapsiree struck hard and tipped the scale in her favour.
She wrapped this showdown with a favourable result of 21-15 and setup her next clash with Beatriz Corrales.
