Sapsiree Taerattanachai surges into Women’s Singles quarter-final at Thailand Open GP Gold
Thailand’s talented shuttler Sapsiree Taerattanachai cheered her home fans as she surged into Women’s Singles quarter-final after beating Kaori Imabeppu of Japan in round-of-16 encounter at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Thursday, June 7, in Thailand.
The higher ranked Thai shuttler struggled hard to find a good rhythm in the court but failed to take the opening game. However, she made her way back into the contest and won the following games with a decent margin to register a narrow victory over her
Japanese opponent.
On the other hand, the lower ranked and un-seeded Imabeppu played sensational badminton and took the opening game with a tight margin. However, she remained unlucky in the following both games and lost the contest to her local opponent in 71 minutes.
In the opening game, both ladies grabbed the attention of local crowd by putting up tremendous show of fast and aggressive badminton. They did not miss any chance of finishing up rallies and remained close until the one-minute interval.
After the break, they continued pushing each other in all areas of the court by injecting impressive power in their shots.
The score was 20-20 when Sapsiree played a few wrong strokes and eventually lost the set with a 20-22 score on the board.
In the following game, this thrilling fight continued in the similar fashion as both ladies did not drop their speed and also kept the pace of rallies at the maximum level. They could not produce any gap until the one-minute break.
After the interval, both shuttlers remain on track without losing their focus. However, it was Sapsiree who played positive and smart badminton in the end and took the set with a 21-19 margin on the board.
In the deciding game, the higher ranked Sapsiree controlled the pace from opening points and also remained dominant in the whole set.
The Thai lady was in commanding position in the final set and bagged it with a 21-15 margin on the score board.
Sapsiree registered a narrow win over Imabeppu in rubber games with a dramatic score of 20-22, 21-19 and 21-15.
