Saptapadi and Moyenne Corniche heavily backed to win the Ebor Handicap at York on 20 August
Trainer Brian Ellison will deploy his two older geldings, Saptapadi and Moyenne Corniche, in the Betford Ebor Heritage Handicap at York on 20 August, 2011, over a distance of 1 mile and 6 furlongs. Currently there are 22 runners set to participate in the
race.
Brian Ellison believes that his duo has what it takes to outlast any horse that the race might dish upon them on 20th August.
The 5-year-old chestnut gelding, Saptapadi, sent as the 8 to 1 co-favourite to win the Ebor Handicap, hasn’t had a win to his name ever since he broke his maiden, way back, on 17 April, 2010, among 10 other horses.
The son of Indian Ridge out of Olympienne by Sadler’s Wells, has run at York in his last two races, finishing fifth in both of them.
On 9 July, 2011, under Paul Pickard, the gelding was held up behind in the John Smith’s Cup Handicap. The gelding was asked to go wide 3 furlongs out but bumped into a fellow runner 2 furlongs out.
The gelding then switched to the left side and rode over 1 furlong out. The pair stayed on the inside and finished six lengths behind Green Destiny.
The next start for Saptapadi at York was the most recent Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes on 23 July, 2011.
It was a close race that had 7 runners competing in it with a distance of 1 mile and 2 ½ furlongs.
The horse that finished fifth was 2 ½ lengths behind the winner, Twice Over, which shows how close the race was.
On the other hand, the 6-year-old chestnut gelding, Moyenne Corniche, also had a start at York in the same race as Saptapadi in the John Smith’s Cup Heritage Handicap.
Under jockey S H James, the gelding remained in touch with the lot and chased the leaders 3 furlongs out, but he was soon ridden along over 2 furlongs out, gradually starting to weaken and finishing 10th in a field of 19 horses.
Trainer Brian Ellison believes that Moyenne Corniche has improved a great deal compared to his last run and will come out as a different horse in the Ebor Handicap.
