Sapura continues dazzling performance in Malaysian Hockey League – Hockey Update
In order to make it five consecutive and get a place besides the frontrunners, the Sapura team has clobbered University Technology Mara (UiTM) 5-2 in the fifth match of the Premier Division in the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) that took place at National
Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on October 2.
After earning another impressive victory, the Sapura squad not only held back their unbeaten record but is also staying at second place following the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) with a minor goal difference. The two squads have had 15 points each after
playing five games in the Premier Division. KLHC scored 29 goals while Sapura did make 21 notches up till now.
The straight victory made Sapura’s Coach I. Vickneswaran quite pleased over the three points. Speaking after the match, he was of the opinion that they missed some good chances and that could improve their average. He said, “We had quite a few more opportunities
to get the goals but we were a little complacent. And the defence at the tail-end also gave conceded some easy goals. That should not happen and we need to be consistent throughout the game.”
He further stated that to score and concede goals were similarly important and they will have to be cautious from any squad. Though the UiTM team did not show much resistance, the other teams might give them tough time.
In the match against UiTM, the players from Sapura did start the game impressively and marked five goals in the early period of the match. From the other side, only two goals were scored which also disappointed Sapura, as it has an impact over their goal-scoring
ratio.
With 12 minutes into the match, Mohamed Marhan Jalil scored the first goal of the match from a tremendous field effort and put Sapura ahead on the scoreboard. They continued to lead for the next few minutes and did not allow the opponents to make a goal.
In the 29th minute of the mark, Mohamed Noor Khairul converted a short corner and doubled the tally. At half-time, Sapura was sitting ahead 2-0 which gave a boost to their game in the second period.
At two minutes into the second period, Azreen Rizal scored the first goal of the game and increased the tally up to three while his team-mates Jiwa Mohan and S. Kuhan added one goal each in the 39th and 52nd minutes to put them on the
way to victory. However, the players from UiTM flexed their muscles in the waning minutes and notched a pair of goals. Sherat Ali and Ahmad Amirul Alias scored one goal each in the 62nd and 67th minutes to show their presence on the scoreboard.
