Sara Errani/Roberta Vinci defeat Maria Elena Camerin/Sorana Cirstea at the Andalucia Tennis Experience doubles
Top seeded pair of Italians, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, crushed the duo of Maria Elena Camerin of Italy and Sorana Cirstea from Romania in the doubles category at the Andalucia Tennis Experience at Marbella, Spain. The winning
pair took less than an hour to wrap up the straight sets victory at 6-3, 6-2, on Thursday to book a berth in the semi-final of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tournament.
Apart from two serve breaks in the opener, the Italian duo rarely faced a serious challenge from their opponents in game and cruised past the contest with ease. Errani and Vinci kept the games short and professional, pressing their
competitors to commit mistakes. Camerin and Cirstea conceded plenty of unforced errors in the game, which included five expensive double faults.
Camerin and Cirstea clearly lacked coordination amongst them and failed to catch the pace of the game. They served decently with 64 per cent accuracy but couldn’t collect sufficient points in the contest to overcome the top seed
pair. Camerin and Cirstea took merely 33 points while the Italian duo nabbed 55 of the total 88 points being played in the match.
Camerin and Cirstea had a great start to the opener, serving with 71 per cent accuracy and winning 47 per cent points on it. The Italians also won the same percentage of first serve points in the first set but they edged their
opponents by striking break points on regularity. Errani and Vinci were broken in the third game and then again in the fifth game of the opening set but the top seed pair kept their nerve to back fire at their rivals.
Errani and Vinci belted serve breaks in the fourth and sixth games to lead 4-3 in the opener. They shifted gears from then onwards and launched a series of forays to their opponents, pushing them on the back foot. The top seed
duo exploited the wide open cracks between Camerin and Cirstea, clouting assertive winners to construct a third break point to serve for the set at 5-3. Errani and Vinci bagged the first set at 6-3 to get one up in the contest.
A drastic downturn in the game of Camerin and Cirstea took place in the next set, as their first serve percentage dropped to 57 and they committed four double faults. Errani and Vinci were outstanding on nabbing points in the second
set, winning 13 of 14 first serve points. Two serve breaks from the Italian pair proved sufficient to seal the set at 6-2 and advance to the semi-finals of the Andalucia Tennis Experience.
Errani and Vinci will play the winner of the second quarter-final, due to be played on Friday. The fourth seed duo of Vitalia Diatchenko of Russia and Monica Neculescu of Romania will be competing against the Spanish wildcard pair
of Beatriz Garcia Vidagany and Silvia Soler Espinosa in the second quarter-final.
