Sara Errani/Roberta Vinci oust Dulko/Suarez to reach title-round – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Sixth seeded Italians, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, stomped over the Argentinean wild card entrants, Gisela Dulko and Paola Suarez, in straight sets at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Friday. They jolted down a 7-5, 6-3 victory against the Argentineans
to power into the final showdown at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event held at Key Biscayne.
The Italian seeds displayed their top notch performance to outfox Dulko and Suarez in 80 minutes in their second outing. The teams previously battled each other at the Whirlpool Monterrey Open and after earning this fame, Errani and Vinci not only maintained
their winning record against the wild cards but also secured a place in the final round.
"We're very happy to reach the final here," Vinci was quoted in a post-match press conference. "We had a great match tonight with Gisela and Paola - they played a very good match."
"It was a tough match - we didn't start so well, but we got better game by game," Errani commented after the match. "I hope we can play well again Sunday and hopefully win."
Errani and Vinci made a nervy entry at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park and after suffering the first blow in the second game, they fell 0-3. Despite snatching their break back in the seventh game, they lost their serve once more and trailed at 3-5. However,
the Italians remained calm after that and after unleashing their true form, they wiped out the following four games in a row, subsequently pulling out the opener with a 7-5 win.
The seeds kept momentum running into the following set and went on a three-game tear before their rivals could break back. Regardless of exchanging a serve break after that, the Italians maintained their lead and capitalised on another break chance in the
last game to seal the set with a 6-3 success.
Next in line for the high flying Italian tandem is the fifth seeded team, Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova. The Russian duo had won their previous round matches in straight sets. They overpowered the American-Romanian team of Vania King and Monica Niculescu,
with a 6-3, 6-4 score line in almost one and a half hour to set-up this duel.
