Sixth seeded Italians, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, stomped over the Russian-Chinese tandem, Ekaterina Makarova and Jie Zheng, in straight sets at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Tuesday. They formulated a 6-3, 6-3 success against their challengers to cruise
into the final four at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event held in Florida, United States.
The Italians put up a solid display of their skills to outclass Makarova and Zheng in 66 minutes. As a result, Errani and Vinci confidently advanced into the last four at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.
Errani and Vinci stepped on the Miami hard courts with poise and cruised to pluck the opening game with love. They then maintained consistency in their game to slide remaining serves without facing any hindrance. The Italians got the breakthrough in the
eighth game and clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line. They sought nine break opportunities and converted one to their advantage.
The high flying Italians kept momentum rolling into the following set and smoothly swiped in entire serves without facing any breakpoint. They earned the critical break in the seventh game to take the initial lead at 4-3. Errani and Vinci then capitalised
on another break opportunity in the last game to pull out the victory with a 6-3 score line.
