Sara Errani breaks into the Top-10 rankings for the first time in her career – Tennis News
Finalist of the Roland Garros French Open, Sara Errani, has jumped fourteen places in the world rankings to break into the Top-10 players of the world. In the latest edition of the rankings list put forth by WTA (World Tennis Association),
she is the biggest mover from the Top-30 players; grabbing the 10th spot from nowhere amongst Top-20 players.
It is a remarkable achievement for someone who is just 5 feet five inches to put up such a startling show in Paris. She ousted the likes of former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, the in-form Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova, German
number one, Angelique Kerber, and the Aussie superstar, Samantha Stosur.
After losing the final to the newly ranked world number one, Maria Sharapova, she stated, “I just want to say congratulations to Maria for the tournament and today. I don't feel like Top 10, but I will be Top 10, and it's incredible
for me. I really can't believe it. I'm so happy for everything right now." She is such a humble player. Her English might be on a weaker side but her feelings were truly that of a true sportsman; hiding her tears and praising the Russian for her performance.
However, she didn’t left Paris without a Grand Slam title. She lifted the doubles trophy, a day before she lost to the 25-year-old Russian. She teamed up with her compatriot, Roberta Vinci, and ousted the Russian duo of Maria Kirilenko
and Nadia Petrova, in the grand finale. She was on the verge of winning the singles title as well but the onslaught of Sharapova shattered her dreams into pieces.
Grass court season is up next. Everyone wants to be in a terrific form just to make sure that they play well in Wimbledon during the Grand Slam as well as Olympics. She is going to start the grass court season on a very high-note
and most probably lift her game up further. She can defy the odds and lift the trophy in London.
She is a world class athlete and deserves all the respect for her marvellous achievements throughout the year.
