Sara Errani breezes past Edina Gallovits-Hall to reach quarters – Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012
Third seeded Sara Errani crushed the Romanian qualifier, Edina Gallovits-Hall, with a breadstick at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012 on Wednesday. She jolted down a 6-4, 6-1 score line against the Romanian to book a place in the last eight at this clay court
tournament held in Acapulco, Mexico.
The world number 36 showed her best tennis to outclass Gallovits-Hall in straight sets at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event held in Acapulco, Mexico. Facing each other for the third time, the Italian not only avenged her loss at this
event two years ago but also took lead in the head-to-head series by 2-1 against the 27-year-old.
The 24-year-old thundered into the Fairmont Acapulco Princess and drew the first blood in the opening game. She remained on track and after exchanging two serve breaks, the Italian bagged the opener with a 6-4 win. Errani saved half of the four breakpoints
she came across and converted three out of seven break opportunities to her advantage.
Errani kept momentum running into the following set and wiped out the opening four games successively before the Romanian could hold on. She maintained her intensity and pocketed the last two games, eventually registering a tremendous 6-1 score line. The
Italian again dominated the set as she was never threatened with any breakpoint and capitalised on all three break chances.
Next in queue for the third seed is the Spanish lucky loser, Estrella Cabeza Candela, who warded off early resistance to earn a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory against Hungary’s Melinda Czink. The Spaniard lost her serve three times but capitalised on four out of nine
break chances to earn the spotlight.
Earlier, eighth seeded Alberta Brianti became the casualty of the day. She suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 6-7(2) defeat at the hands of Michaella Krajicek in two hours and 20-minutes. The Italian spilled more errors, converted only three out of eight break chances
to her advantage and saved only four out of seven breakpoints she faced.
The Dutch on the other hand advanced into the quarter-finals where she will face top seeded Italian, Roberta Vinci.
