Sara Errani cripples Irina Falconi to reach the second round – Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012
Italian tennis ace, Sara Errani, slaughtered the American rising star, Irina Falconi, with double breadsticks at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012 on Tuesday. She formulated a superb 6-1, 6-1 score line against the world number 100 in the opening round at
this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) clay court tournament taking place in Acapulco, Mexico.
The 24-year-old displayed faultless performance at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess and crushed Falconi in straight sets. Encountering each other for the first time, Errani cruised into the second round of this clay court tournament and took lead in the head-to-head
series by 1-0 against the American.
"It's better to make it quick as it's very hot here," the blooming Italian said after the match. "I played a good match. The bounce is very high here so it helps to play with a lot of spin and move your opponent around. I hope to continue playing like this
for the rest of the week."
Errani stormed into the opening set and blasted forehands and slices to reel off the opening three games in a row. In spite of losing her serve in the fourth game, she maintained her intensity and not only bagged the last three games but also pulled out
a breadstick.
Ranked 36th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Errani kept her rhythm in the proceeding set and swiped in the opening three games with a break of serve. After the American youngster held her serve in the fourth game, she went into overdrive mode and
pocketed the set with an assuring 6-1 score line.
Summing up the seed’s performance in this one hour and 7-minutes duel, Errani clobbered an amazing first serve share of 76 per cent as opposed to Falconi’s 53 per cent and marked 25 out of 38 points on it. The Italian brushed off three out of four breakpoints
she faced and cashed in six out of 11 break opportunities.
Later, Errani was quoted about the tournament, "this is the best tournament of the year. I've always said this about Acapulco. It's just incredible here. You can go to the sea, the beach... it's really just incredible."
Next up for the high spirited Italian is the Romanian qualifier, Edina Gallovits-Hall, who stunned the Hungarian contender, Greta Arn, in straight sets to set-up this meeting. Errani is looking forward to reach far in this tournament and with her current
momentum; she can easily surpass any challenge.
