Sara Errani cripples Mandy Minella in quarter-finals – Whirlpool Monterrey Open 2012
Italian tennis ace, Sara Errani, crushed the Luxembourgian rising star, Mandy Minella, with a breadstick at the Whirlpool Abierto Monterrey 2012 on Friday. She nudged a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the 26-year-old to advance into the final four at this WTA (Women’s
International Association) International event taking place in Monterrey, Mexico.
The second seeded Errani displayed flawless performance at the Sierra Madre Tennis Club and crushed the Luxembourgian in straight sets. The Italian defeated Minella with a 6-2, 7-6(3) score line at the Galatina WTA event in 2007 and after earning this success,
she improved to a 2-0 record in their head-to-head series.
Ranked 36th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Errani swiftly held entire serves after blocking both breakpoints she encountered. The Italian then cashed in three out of four break chances and pulled out the opener by registering an exceptional 6-1
score line.
The 24-year-old carried her rhythm in the following set. Apart from losing her serve once, she broke Minella’s serve three times to clinch the set with a 6-2 score line. The Italian found seven break opportunities and prevailed throughout the set.
Overall, the highly energetic Errani registered brilliant stats in this 66-minute battle. She formulated a higher first serve share of 73 percent and magnificently clinched 21 out of 30 points on it.
The high spirited Italian is in tremendous form at this hard court event. She destroyed Canada’s Stephanie Dubois and French starlet, Alize Cornet, in straight sets in the pre-quarters.
Next in line for the highest ranked player left in Monterrey is the unseeded Hungarian, Timea Babos. The world number 107 spilled six double faults but broke her opponent’s serve seven times to clobber a 6-4, 6-2 victory in an hour and seven-minutes marathon.
The world number 68, Great Arn will join Errani in the final four. She slaughtered the Russian starlet, Nina Bratchikova, with a 6-1, 7-6(6) success in their second meeting. The sixth seed cashed in 6 out of 10 break chances and fended off half of the 6
breakpoints he came across to formulate this score line.
Arn will next face Romania’s Alexandra Cadantu who stunned Lourdes Dominguez Lino with a bagel to secure this position.
