Sara Errani keeps rising in the WTA singles and doubles rankings – Tennis News
Italian tennis ace, Sara Errani, continue to rise higher and higher with her consistent performances in both singles and doubles categories at the same time. The 25-year-old right hander had broken into the elite Top-10 WTA Premier
rankings earlier this season and she has now claimed the world number seven spot in the latest release of the women’s rankings this Monday.
Errani has topples the last year’s US Open champion, Samantha Stosur, from the seventh spot to carry on her voyage to the top of the world charts. Her sublime form has earned her four WTA championship titles this season, along
with a memorable appearance in the final of the French Open. She rides a 52-9 winning record for the year and has laboured extremely hard to make a place among the Top-10 players in the world.
Errani had another brilliant Grand Slam run at this year’s US Open championships, registering a number of emphatic wins to reach all the way to the semi-final stages of the mega event. She outplayed the world number six, Angelique
Kerber, in the fourth round but then fell to the eventual champion, Serena Williams, in the round of four. Her voyage till the semi-finals have earned her enough ranking points to climb up three places and grab the number seven spot in the world.
Prior to her semi-final exit in the singles category at US Open, Errani had already confirmed her place as the world number one in the doubles category of the WTA Premier Rankings. Along with her compatriot, Roberta Vinci, Errani
has been absolutely phenomenal in the doubles encounters this year. The two Italians have won 8 doubles titles, including two coveted Grand Slam trophies at French Open and US Open this season.
"It's a dream come true," Errani said of their new rankings after winning the doubles final at the Flushing Meadows Park. "We've played amazing all year - making the final in Australia and winning in Paris, and winning so many
matches on clay. We've done well on every surface this year. Of course this is an amazing achievement for us - we hope to continue."
Marion Bartoli of France has also broke back in the Top-10 list this week, while the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, has crashed to number 11.
