Fifth seeded Italian Sara Errani scored a dominating win over compatriot Maria Elena Camerin to enter the quarterfinals of the 2011 Barcelona Ladies Open, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tour being played in Barcelona, Spain.
With her aggressive strokes and defensive shots, Errani sweep past Camerin 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 32 minutes to move into the quarterfinal for the second time in her career.
Errani, ranked 41st in the world is currently the third ranked tennis player in Italy behind world number four Francesca Schiavone and world number twenty Flavia Pennetta.
Errani opened the match on a superb note and broke Camerin early enough to lead the match with straight sets. It looked as if the 23-year-old Errani won’t have any problems to win this match as she was controlling it since the
beginning. In the first set, Errani remained unbroken as she didn’t allow her opponent to score many points on return. Camerin was unable to hold her serves and was broken four times which resulted in Errani winning the first set with 6-4.
In the second set Errani improved herself and displayed some of her classy moves that got her into the last eight. She immediately broke Camerin’s serves and scored 75 percent of points on her service and 67 percent of points on
return. Errani clinched 100 percent of breakpoints on return to claim the victory in straight sets. Camerin, who served 10 double faults in the match, was ensured sent packing because of her error-strewn performance in the match. Errani, on the other hand
hasn’t dropped a single set yet and looked as if she is on the right track. She defeated Spain’s Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor, who was a wild card entrant at the tournament, in the previous round.
Italian tennis sensation Sara Errani will take on compatriot Alberta Brianti in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Barcelona Ladies Open. With a semi-final spot at stake, we can surely anticipate some electrifying tennis action from
both the players.
