Sara Errani on the verge of making history – Tennis News
Finalist of the Roland Garros French Open, Sara Errani, left her home at the age of 12 and moved out of her native country, Italy, to march on to the Nick Bollettieri's famous tennis academy in Florida, USA. She was struck with
grief and soon became home sick; called home every day for almost 10 months and cried a lot because she was unable to adjust to the new environment especially when she couldn’t convey her message properly due to lack of proper English speaking skills.
However, her parents had full faith in their daughter. Her mother, Fulvia stated, “I knew she was determined and focused. So, I knew she would figure things out." These were the words from the mother who had seen a lot of difficulties
in her life but watched her daughter triumph over the Aussie number one, Samantha Stosur, in the semi-final clash.
Errani who is 25-year-old now moved back to Europe and found a coach from Spain who taught her the techniques to overcome the limitations of being a 5 foot 4 inches small height. Tennis is usually dominated by tall divas who are
around 6 feet but this young lady has found a way out in such a competitive world.
She stated, “It's not a question of believing or not believing. I don't think about that. I just think about playing. I just think about going on court and giving my all. And whatever happens. I've never thought, `I can't beat
someone in the top 10.' I play and give my best, and if I don't win, I don't win. But I don't think about whether I can win the title. I just think about the next match."
There is a possibility that she can upset the second seed Russian, Maria Sharapova, in the final of the French Open and lift her first singles Grand Slam title having won the doubles title already on Friday. She can register a
history on the eve of Saturday by winning the singles title as well and that will defy Sharapova from completing her career Slam. A lot is on stake and the little queen is out there to defy all the odds.
