Sara Errani slaughters Olga Puchkova in the third round – US Open 2012
Seeded 10th in the US Open draw,
Sara Errani overpowered Olga Puchkova in third round, held on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows Park in New York, United States. Errani smashed her rival to enter in the fourth round by a remarkable win of 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday.
The opening set of the match started with Errani’s perfect high-speed serves and the trend dominated the remaining half of the set. The Russian miserably failed to encounter her rival and her score line could ace past the
second set. The Italian comfortably proceeded forward without facing any barriers and wrapped up with an outstanding 6-1 score.
This year’s French Open finalist, Errani, maintained a high first serve percentage of 90, winning 14 of 19 points on it. Nonetheless, the Russian professional did not receive a single chance to break her rival’s serve and
had low first serve of 61 percent, securing five of 14 points.
Ranked 143rd in the WTA Premier rankings, Puchkova was unable to hold her initial serve in the next set. On the contrary, the Italian professional grabbed the opportunity and stamped the initial four
games with her 4-love lead. After Puchkova won the fifth game, Errani managed to take a flying start towards the end and closed out the contest with a breadstick.
The former world number nine Italian continued the set with her excellent first serve 88 percent and won 10 of 14 points with it. Fortunately, she snatched three out of four break serves and like before, the Russian failed
to secure any. She had average first serve percentage of 67, clamping just eight out of 18 points.
The Italian contender has brilliantly improved her world rankings this start of season and aims to bring an emphatic end to her this year’s career. The 25-year-old will contest against the German number one, Angelique Kerber,
in the next round of US Open. Kerber rallied past Olga Govortsova in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, in the third round clash.
