Sara Errani slays Anna Tatishvili to reach final of Budapest Grand Prix 2012: Tennis Special
Top seeded Sara Errani toppled the Georgian starlet, Anna Tatishvili, with a breadstick at the Budapest Grand Prix 2012 on Friday. She jolted down a 6-2, 6-1 score line against the world number 81 to breeze into the title-round at this WTA (Women’s Tennis
Association) International level event taking place in Budapest, Hungary.
The Italian ace needed almost an hour to demolish Tatishvili in straight sets in their second meeting. After stealing this show, Errani not only improved to a 2-0 lifetime in the head-to-head series against the Georgian but also moved a step closer to claim
her fifth career title.
"It was not easy as the score suggests," Errani reflected. "She played a good match, she played strong but maybe she was a bit tired after the long match she had yesterday. Because of that, I tried to make the games longer by moving her on the baseline."
Errani flashed into this outdoor clay court event and stroke out the opening four games in a row before the Georgian could hold on. She then slid remaining serves and sealed the opener by winning six games to two. The Italian manifested a spectacular first
serve share of 90 per cent as opposed to her rival’s 83 per cent and clicked 17 out of 27 points on it. She also brushed off both breakpoints she faced and cashed in half of the four break chances to inch towards the glory.
Ranked 27th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Errani kept momentum rolling into the second set and again pocketed the opening four games successively. After Tatishvili kept her serve in the fourth game, the Italian stroke out the proceeding two games
and bagged the breadstick. She swiped in her entire serves without facing any real competition and converted all three break opportunities to her advantage.
The 25-year-old showed top notch performance en route to semis. She slaughtered Luxembourgian Mandy Minella with double breadsticks in the opening round. Errani then battled past the local qualifier, Melinda Czink, in three sets to reach quarter-finals.
The Italian re-ignited her spark again and crushed her compatriot, Alberta Brianti, with a bagel to secure this spot.
Next in line for the highest ranked player of the tournament is Russia’s Elena Vesnina.
"Sara is in a great form and the clay surface is her specialty," the Russian commented about her next match-up. "I'm really looking forward to that match. It's going to be a real challenge for me. We never played each other before, I'll just try to do my
best and win the title."
The Russian stunned fifth seeded Marina Erakovic in straight sets to occupy this spot. She made a sloppy start and suffered the first blow in the opening game. However, the world number 78 swiped in her remaining serves and capitalised on four out of six
break opportunities, ultimately manipulating a 6-2, 6-4 success.
