Sara Errani tramples Vania King in the 2nd round – Mercury Open 2011
The Italian, Sara Errani, smashes the American home-girl, Vania King at the La Costa Resort and Spa, Carlsbad, California. Errani achieved a flawless victory of 6-3, 6-2 over her opponent in a quick 76 minutes of the match.
Neither of the players hit an ace during the first set, however, Errani serving first; had lost her precision only once and ended up with a line fault. While, King had struck 2 double faults; hitting the net.
King was capable of saving 4 of the 7 break points along with, winning a break point. Whereas, Errani had allowed single break point chance to her opponent and instead, was able to break her opponent thrice.
Errani had a better serve and return serve which facilitated her in clenching an exceptional 65% of her total service points along with a commendable 58% in her total return points. She won the set with 11 points more than Vania
King.
After taking a thrashing in the first set, one would have expected the 22-year-old American (King) to save some dignity; however, that was not the case. Instead during the second set neither of the players threw an ace, and King’s
precession faltered again and she hit the ball one onto the net.
In addition, King’s first serve points (which were forty six percent) and second serve points (fifteen percent) were below the par which resulted in her attaining only forty two percent of her total service points. Subsequently,
her return game was better than her serve with total return points amounting to fifty five percent and therefore attained a total of nineteen out of forty six in her total set score. She was also not able to save any of the four breakpoints and won only two
breakpoint advantages.
Whereas her opponent, Errani had an excellent return game winning a sixty nine percent of her total return points along with forty five percent of total service points. Errani at the age of 24 was running around the court like
a bolt of lightning and managed to avail all her breakpoint advantages thus achieving a hundred percent, giving her a competitive edge over King and hence, battered her opponent black and blue winning the set 2-0
Across the board, Errani had zero double faults, managed to win 7 of the 11 break point opportunities and with an excellent serve and return game she won a total of 55% percent of total service points along with a remarkable return
she bagged a total of sixty three percent of total return points and hence, achieved a total of sixty percent which was almost twice as many points as King’s.  
Sara Errani qualified into the third round where she will be facing the Chinese Shuai Peng.
