Sara Errani trounces Carla Suarez Navarro to book a spot in the final – Barcelona Ladies Open 2012
Italian seventh seed, Sara Errani, dumps the Spanish starlet, Carla Suarez Navarro, to book a spot in the final of the Barcelona Ladies Open on Saturday. She plonked her in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 taking just 69 minutes into play.
Navarro started in dismal fashion; lost the opening serve game and went down 0-4 in the opening set. It was all Italian from the start and she played some devastating strokes; absolutely shattering her rival into pieces. She spared
just one game for the Spaniard in the opening set; bagging four breakpoints compared to just one of Navarro.
There was no match at all and the semi-final battle seemed like a mere practice session for the Italian to calm her nerves before the final began on Sunday. She registered an emphatic first and second serve conversion rate and
tortured her opponent all the way with eye-startling cross-court and down the line winners.
Nothing changed for the Spaniard in the second set as she tried to force her way back into the game. The frustration kept mounting with the Italian tennis ace bagging game after game giving her rival absolutely no opportunity at
all to settle into the atmosphere.
Errani bagged four more breakpoints in the second set and donated two to her opponent to save the local from bagel. She converted 53 percent of her first serves in the second set that was bit of a concern for her and she needs
to work upon that in order to win the final.
Total number of points played in the match were 97 and out of those 57 were clubbed by the winner while the rest of the 40 went in the favour of the Spaniard. The Italian seventh seed bagged eight of 13 allotted breakpoints and
saved five off them as well to keep her opponent away from making a comeback.
She will lock horns with the winner of the contest between the Romanian beauty queen, Sorana Cirstea, and the third seed Slovak, Dominika Cibulkova. The Slovak is the highest seeded player left in the tournament and most probably
the hot favourite to bag her first singles title in 2012.
