Sara Errani will claim the Doubles world number one spot next week – Tennis News
Performing wonders in the singles encounters this season, Italian tennis ace, Sara Errani, has reached the peak of her doubles career. Her feats along with her fellow compatriot, Roberta Vinci, have propelled her to the world number
one spot in the WTA Premier Doubles Rankings. Errani will be proclaimed the top rated star in the new edition of the women’s doubles rankings to be released on coming Monday.
"I would like to congratulate Sara on becoming the WTA's World No.1 doubles player," said WTA Chairman & CEO Stacey Allaster. "Sara has had an amazing year in singles and doubles, reaching both finals at Roland Garros and winning
11 titles. Sara, along with her partner Roberta, achieved an historic feat by becoming the first all-Italian team to win a Grand Slam doubles title. Their hard work and determination has paid off and is earning them fans around the world."
Errani and Vinci are rated number two seed in the ongoing US Open Championships doubles category and have comfortably booked a spot in the semi-finals. The Italian tandem has lost merely one set in the entire tournament so far,
outmuscling their rivals in the most assertive manner in all the encounters. They hunted down the 11th seeded German-Czech combination of Julia Goerges and Kveta Peschke in the quarter-finals. Errani’s this victory has yielded her enough points
to top the doubles rating this week.
Currently holding the 10th spot in the singles category, Errani is going very strong in the race glory at the US Open championships. She has beaten the world number six, Angelique Kerber of Germany, in the fourth round
to book a berth in the quarter-finals of the this last Grand Slam event of the 2012 WTA season. It is also interesting to see that she will face her doubles partner, Vinci, in the round of eight on Wednesday afternoon and the winner will be awarded a berth
in the semi-finals at the Flushing Meadows Park in New York.
Errani and Vinci have already bagged seven WTA doubles titles this year, including the all-prestigious Roland Garros French Open crown. Their coordination is considered to be the ideal one in these types of matches and they string
together their individual efforts with great command to take down their rivals convincingly.
Errani has also broken into the coveted Top-10 singles ranking for the first time in her career, showing her sublime run of form in the current professional circuit. Her quarter-final appearance in US Open singles will certainly
improve her rankings even further and she might go on to register some surprising results before lifting her maiden Grand Slam title in New York.
