Sara Nordenstam secures Women’s 200m breast-stroke title - 2011 Norway Long Course Championships
Sara Nordenstam of Lambertseter SK conquered the title of the Women’s 200m breast-stroke on the fourth day of the 2011 Norway Long Course Championships. The Long Course Norwegian meet is a four-day competition and is of vital importance, as it precedes the
upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this month.
The 28-year-old Nordenstam won the gold medal of the 200m event with a comfortable distance of almost seven seconds from her following swimmer. She claimed the title of the event in scintillating fashion, as she clocked a time of 2 minutes and 28.12 seconds
for occupying the top spot on the podium.
Nordenstam was followed by her team-member and strongest competitor, Stina Kajsa Colleou, who stayed 7.36 seconds behind her and reached the podium for the silver medal, by appearing on the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes 35.48 seconds. Their team-member,
Luna Elisabeth Søgaard was five seconds behind the second fastest finisher, as she stepped on the podium for the bronze medal, by clocking a superb time of 2 minutes and 40.66 seconds.
Moments later, the arena witnessed a stunning battle for the fourth best spot, where Sophia Broberg Skeltved and Mari Singstad demonstrated their best swimming efforts to escape each other for the fastest finish on the finishing wall. Skeltved of Tromso
SK/NTG managed to out-touch her closest competitor with a difference of 0.19 seconds and secured the fourth position in a time of 2 minutes and 41.32 seconds.
Singstad of Trondhjem SLK finished fifth, as she touched the finishing wall and posted a time of 2 minutes and 41.51 seconds. The sixth best spot was secured by Malene M Pedersen, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 43.05 seconds. Rikke Nagell-Kleven and
Kaja Bremer followed them on the finishing wall for the seventh and eighth fastest spots, with timings of 2:44.86 and 2:48.20 minutes, respectively.
The championships ended after the conclusion of all swimming events in a range of categories, while the arena applauded for the commendable swimming efforts of their national swimmers.
