Sara Thyden claims Women’s 400m IM gold medal: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
Sara Thyden dictated terms to her competitors by claiming gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) discipline on second day of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
The 22-year-old Thyden made no mistake in the eight-lap event and smothered all hopes of her challengers by clinching gold medal of the swim. She faced no trouble in grabbing gold medal of the event, as she remained nearly three body lengths ahead of her subsequent swimmer, Celine Bertrand in the IM event.
Thyden went full throttle in the 400m swim and accomplished gold medal of the event by posting a time of 4 minutes and 56.62 seconds. With her invincible struggle, she remained nearly ten seconds faster from Bertrand, who occupied second fastest place of the race by clocking a time of 5 minutes and 07.27 seconds.
Bertrand was trailed by Erica Sjoholm, who tried to supersede her on the finishing end for second position but remained just 0.32 seconds slower. Sjoholm failed to advance on the podium for second position and ended up second by producing a time of 5 minutes and 07.59 seconds.
Next was the Men’s 100m butterfly, where Alon Mandel proved his mettle for the top spot. He remained just a nail away from his subsequent swimmer, Lars Frolander and secured gold medal by clocking a time of 53.76 seconds. Frolander remained just 0.10 seconds behind Mandel and settled on the victory stand for second position by posting a time of 53.86 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Andreas Edlund, who was 5.70 seconds slower from him but ensured his third position in the distant IM event by concluding his race with an effort of 59.56 seconds.
Thyden expressed happiness over her national gold claiming effort and articulated her desire of making her country proud by achieving the same at higher levels of international swimming.
Furthermore, the audience admired delicate efforts of all participants in their exclusive races while the winners received accolades for their overpowering efforts on second day of the tournament. In addition, the session concluded after the completion of all scheduled events.
