SaraBoca clinches President’s Cup Qualifiers Finals at Wellington
SaraBoca emerged victorious in the finals of the President’s Cup Qualifiers against Woodlawn played at the International Polo Club in Wellington, city of Florida. Raul Gringo Colombres, the legendary polo pro of Argentina, stole the show by scoring impressive
ten goals in the crucial game.
The heated contested match between SaraBoca and Woodlawn remained head-to-head in the first five frames of play. However, the final set of play was completely dominated by SaraBoca and they not only won the game by three goals, but also clinched the title
of the event.
The game was opened at very fast pace and both foursomes carried out numerous attacks to either side. Ruben Coscia obtained a couple of goals to put Woodlawn, ahead on the score-board. But the attackers of SaraBoca stormed back and had it all even at 2-2.
Colombres in a counter-offence scored two goals for SaraBoca of which one came on a penalty-shot, while other from the field. Another Woodlawn goal went up on the score-board from Coscia to close out the round with Woodlawn sitting on top with one goal lead,
3-2.
The game further paced up in the second set of play and both sides traded a couple of goals in the seven and half minutes of play. Wesley Finlayson opened the frame by scoring a goal, but it was countered by a pair of goals in the hands of Omar Cepeda and
Coscia. SaraBoca was trailing by two goals, 5-3 at the end of the second round action.
The SaraBoca attack came alive in the third set of play and they notched three goals while holding Woodlawn only for a single point. Colombres and Finlayson added two and one goal respectively and established their first lead in the game. But it could not
last for long, as Coscia marked a goal and tied the knots at six-all at the halftime.
SaraBoca and Woodlawn exchanged one goal in the fourth round and made the game more interesting. Colombres connected on a couple of penalty shots for SaraBoca, while Coscia and Cepeda managed one score each for Woodlawn.
Amazingly, same two goals were scored by the two teams in the second last period. Colombres did the work for SaraBoca, while Coscia responded with two penalty conversions and took the score level once again at 10-10.
The players from SaraBoca revved up in the final action and took the game into their favour after seven minutes of play. Finlayson and Colombres marked a pair of goals apiece, while Cepeda scored a solitary point for Woodlawn. The SaraBoca team won the game
and as well as lifted the title by three goals, 14-11.
Colombres set the pace for SaraBoca with ten impressive goals and received MVP of the tournament. Kumbia, the mare of Colombres, was named as the Best Playing Pony award of the President’s Cup.
