Saracens Sports Club v Colombo Cricket Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group A) – Match Update – Colombo CC secure 9-wicket win
Bolstered by Sameen Kandanearachchi’s unbeaten half-century, the Colombo Cricket Club clinched an emphatic 9-wicket win over the Saracens Sports Club, in their match during the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament, played on December 11 at the Royal College
Ground in Colombo.
The Colombo CC won the toss and elected to field first, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamburathu-Godagamage-Arosh-Janoda-c65392 (4.1-1-19-2) leading the bowling attack. The team managed to keep the Saracens SC down to a low total, which their batsmen
then faced no trouble in chasing down.
Only five of the Saracens SC’s batsmen succeeded in moving beyond single-digit scores, and the highest contribution came from tail-ender Wikum Sanjaya, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 21. The second best score was registered by number 8 batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yagamuni-Amila-Nuwan-Mendis-c98188
(23), while Sekar Murali and skipper Mohomad Aslam both managed 11 runs each, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajkumar-Rathika-c83627 scored 10.
A total of three batsmen – opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Deniyadura-Peter-Surien-Kanishka-Silva-c53604 both contributed 3 runs each.
A final tenth-wicket partnership between Sanjaya and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Welisarage-Harsha-Lahiru-Denuwan-Fernando-c96452 (5) propelled the team score into triple figures, and enabled them to post a final total of 112 before they were all out, within 27 overs.
The Colombo CC, on the other hand, barely stumbled throughout their chase, which they managed to complete easily within 22 overs, losing just one wicket in the process. Opening batsman Sameen Kandanearachchi (74*) took charge and anchored the innings with
an unbeaten half-ton at the top. He was joined by fellow opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lahiru-Anurudda-Weragala-c72108 (25) for a solid partnership worth 84 runs.
Having completed more than half the chase, their stand was broken up in the 18th over, with the dismissal of Weragala – caught out by Pasindu Madushan off Amila Mendis. However, Kandanearachchi kept the innings moving forward, and proceeded to
team up with wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Weeratunga-Arachchilage-Suresh-Niroshan-c96442 (1*) for a final unbeaten 29-run partnership. Their combined efforts enabled the Colombo CC to work their way easily up to 113, securing victory with 9 wickets and 139 balls remaining.
