Saracens look for a new home
Saracens have stated that they will not make Wembley or the new Olympic Stadium their new home ground.
Saracens chief executive, Edward Griffiths indicated that the club would like to play at the stadium on a rare occasion, but that for the moment the stadium is too big.
Saracens will take on Leinster at Wembley in the Heineken Cup this Saturday 16 October and they expect a crowd of 40,000 for the game.
Griffiths said, “We'd certainly like a situation where we play two, three or four games a year at Wembley."
"We enjoy the stadium, the stadium enjoys us. Our next objective is to break into the upper tier and start getting crowds of 60,000 to 70,000”, added the Saracens chief executive.
Saracens are looking at possible venue options after Watford football club, who play in the League Championship, activated a break clause in their ground share scheme at Vicarage Road.
The English football team set a deadline of 3 September for a decision on Saracens future at the ground, but the rugby team were not prepared to tie themselves down to a deal.
Griffiths said, "Talks continue, we have a very good relationship with Watford and they understand that we're looking at our situation."
"They understand that as a club a decision on a stadium is massively important, but we make progress every day,” added the chief executive.
Saracens are unlikely to return to Vicarage Road this season and Griffiths admitted that he hopes that Saracens can resolve their stadium problems. Saracens will definitely not move to Wembley or the Olympic Stadium.
"Wembley is owned by the Football Association so I don't think we'd ever play every match at Wembley. The Olympic Stadium's not suitable as a 25,000 seat stadium in a team sport," said Griffiths
"We're looking for a stadium that's smaller to be our home stadium,” he added.
