Saracens secure a win after three weeks against Falcons
With a final in less than a month’s time, top two teams so far in Aviva Premiership have four more games to play to improve their current standings.
Saracens with 59 points coming from 18 matches are placed second behind the table leaders Leicester Tigers who are sitting on top with 62 points. Saracens have won 14 matches so far with their last win coming against Newcastle Falcons at Watford.
The final scorecard does not really reflect the tough time provided by Falcons who are placed at the bottom of the table just above Leeds Carnegie. Saracens who started as the favourites scored their first point of the game in the fifth minute when winger
James short scored a try to finish the move started by the full back Alex Goode and the center Chris Wyles.
After just 15 minutes into the game Saracens made their 1st substitution when Scrum half De Kock was substituted by Richard Wigglesworth. Two minutes later Goode came again scoring from penalty, which was awarded as a result of outside.
Falcons scored their first points in the match courtesy of Fly Half Jimmy Gopperth through a penalty. Gopperth earlier had already missed a penalty awarded after Falcons scrum was offended by Saracens at half way, coming in the 33rd minute of
the game. Just before the end of the first half, Saracens scored with their fly half scoring a penalty to take the score to 11 – 3 at half time.
Newcastle Falcons have put up an impressive show particularly considering that they were playing for their survival and the contest on paper was matchless. Falcons started the second half at high tone and scoring two minutes in first 12 minutes of second
half to take the score to 11 – 9.
The penalties were scored by their fly half at 43rd and 52 minute respectively, which unfortunately became their last scoring opportunities for the game. Saracens extended the lead with their fly half Owen Farrell scoring penalties at 54th and
66th minute of the game.
With Saracens controlling the games, Falcons fell apart and started to make errors on which Saracens capitalized. Prop Jared Saunders who was substituted for the Matt Stevens score a try followed by Owen Farrell’s only conversion in the 68th minute
of the game.
Falcons did their best but were unable to make an impression and lost the match. At the end of the second half the scorecard stands at 24 – 9 with Falcons conceding a bonus which at one point was very much on card.
Saracens were playing their first match after three weeks however they would be disappointed from not scoring a bonus point that would firmly place them at the number two slot.
