Saracens to release international prop Deon Carstens on Western Province’s request – Rugby News
Vicarage Road based English professional Rugby Union club, Saracens, have announced the early release of the former South African International player, Deon Carstens. The club has confirmed
the departure of Carstens from before the expiration of his contract in a statement released on their website this Thursday, November 10.
Providing the details of Carstens early departure from the club, officials at the club have confirmed that the Cape town based South African professional Rugby Union club, Western Province
(Stormers) has requested Saracens for his early release.
The release will allow the impressive and talented front row forwards player, Carstens, to return to his native country and most importantly, the move will give him the opportunity to play
for his hometown Rugby Union outfit. Earlier in his career, Carstens has played for the South African Super Rugby Franchise Sharks and provincial Rugby Union side, Natal Sharks.
The 32-year-old has Carstens has expressed his sadness on leaving the Sarries, yet at the same time he has stated his optimism on the opportunity at hand to play for Western Province. He added,
“I am very sad to be leaving Saracens, but am massively looking forward to the opportunity in Cape Town.”
Commenting on his stay at the Saracens, the Cape Town born Carstens further added, “I am also very grateful to Saracens for their pragmatic approach to this situation; this is special club
- it's run in a different way to any other rugby club in my experience, and it is undoubtedly the right way.”
Saracens’ Director of Rugby, Mark McCall, has termed the early release of Carstens because of club’s close partnership with the Western Province. He added that Stormers were in need of the
quality international prop for their 2012 Super Rugby campaign and they approached them for the availability of Carstens for which they have agreed.
McCall has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of Carstens during his stay at the club. He added his departure in the middle of the season, will affect club’s preparation. He expressed
his best wishes to international prop and his family and termed it as a right decision for everyone.
