Sarah Christin overwhelms Yulfira Barkah to stretch her winning run at Jakarta Open 2012
Indonesia’s elite player Sarah Christin had to employ all of her skills to overwhelm her lower ranked compatriot Yulfira Barkah in Women’s Singles second round of Djarum Sirnas Flypower Jakarta Open 2012 at Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday, May 17.
Sarah, who is seeded at the top in Women’s Singles main draw, stretched her winning run in the home event by playing to her maximum potential and advanced into the round-of-16.
The top seeded Sarah bagged the first game in a one-sided fashion but lost the following set with a decent margin. However, she showed up her class in the deciding set and wrapped up victory.
On the other hand, Yulfira could not start it well as she lost the first game easily but showed her brilliance in the second game and won it.
However, the un-seeded Yulfira failed to match the class of her higher ranked challenger in the final set and lost the fight in three games in 45 minutes.
In the first set, Sarah put up remarkable show of attacking badminton and took an early lead on the score board.
She remained on track and troubled her lower ranked opponent by playing with precision and established a comfortable lead until the break.
After the interval, the top seeded Indonesian continued her roller coaster run and wrapped up opening game with a one-sided 21-10 margin on the board.
In the second game, Yulfira displayed impressive performance when she matched the speed of her rival and remained close until the 60-second interval.
After the break, Sarah geared up her speed to take charge of rallies but failed to dominate the pace this time and lost the set with a difference of 18-21.
In the decider, Sarah was in a difference mood as she occupied the driving seat without wasting any time and took a stunning lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, she continued punishing her rival while remaining positive in the court and won the set with a completely one-sided 21-4 margin on the board.
Sarah emerged victorious in this hard-fought three-set contest with a score of 21-10, 18-21 and 21-4.
