Sarah Düster leaves the Cervélo outfit
Sarah Düster is the latest former member of the Cervélo TestTeam to announce that they will not be among the riders being merged with Team Garmin to form Garmin-Cervélo. She announced on her personal website that she had signed a contract with the Dutch
Nederland Bloeit team for the 2011 season.
“From 1.1.2011 I will go to Nederland Bloeit,” read her announcement. “After 5 years (with) the same team I will now switch teams. It is a new challenge for me and I am exited [sic] that I will be riding on the same team with the world number 1 Marianne
Vos. We are now a strong classics force,” she adds, “where every now and then I can have a chance to get myself a result.”
The 28-year-old German cyclist joined Univega, which in 2010 was called the Cervélo TestTeam, in 2006. She might have put up a fight against her new team-mate Marianne Vos in the World Championships if she hadn’t fractured her pelvis shortly before the trip
to Australia at the end of September.
“It’s a big shame for Sarah and also for the team to be decimated from seven to five riders within a week,” said coach Thomas Liese on the German Federation (BDR) website rad-net.de. “Usually you can get straight back up after a crash, but for us the crashes
of Claudia and Sarah meant a total failure.”
Düster will be followed to the Dutch team by her current Swiss team-mates Emilie Aubry and Patricia Schwager. The powerful British trio of Emma Pooley, Sharon Laws and Lizzie Armitstead are confirmed for the new Garmin-Cervélo line-up, ensuring that it remains
one of the top women’s teams.
